An enchanting Halloween portrait session in Flagstaff, Arizona. We arrived to the location just before before sunset. With the sun creeping lower, shifting through the trees as it descending, the forest bathed in a magical golden glow.
As is tradition, Fall brings with it visions of a portrait session to celebrate All Hallows Eve. This year, I dreamt of a calndron-black gown. A backdrop of golden light and jagged ponderosa pines piercing the sky, a pointed hat, and a large broom.
The next few weeks, I spent time searching for the perfect props. I found the perfect witch hat and broomstick. As the items arrived to my studio location, I unpacked them carefully and set them in a small corner of the room. Notably, something was missing. I wanted one more piece. An aged, glowing lantern to add a touch of magic. Immediately I ordered a small set of string lights and found an ornate iron-looking lantern. Unboxing he items after they arrived, I set them in place with the broom and hat, knowing we had everything we needed to proceed.
The location was next to Lake Mary, which is one of my favorite spots. Ponderosa Pine trees abound and in the Fall, the area is much quieter close to sunset. This spot near the lake was secluded, allowing us to move about the forest with ease.
Settling in to the location, immersing myself in the mental storyboard I had envisioned (as with every session with 13 years of professional photography experience), I focused on capturing the magic in front of my lens. With Rochelle as the perfect model, the evening resulting in the beautiful images below:
